Now on the south bank of the Thames join the Thames Path National Trail on the south east side of the River. The Thames Path National Trail stretches from its source in Gloucester to The Barrier in Greenwich only a few miles from the sea.

Follow the walk along the Albert Embankment passing St Thomas’s Hospital and under Westminster Bridge. Above is the South Bank Lion, where The Queen officially opened the Walkway on the evening of 9 June 1977, in the midst of her Silver Jubilee celebrations. Pass the former County Hall site, and the London Aquarium and ahead stands the British Airways London Eye.

Continue along The Queen’s Walk (which began at the South Bank Lion), passing Jubilee Gardens (which were laid out in 1977), and then under Hungerford Bridge (with its new suspension bridges for pedestrians linking to the South Bank Centre).

This is the site of Festival of Britain in 1951, and now contains the Royal Festival Hall, the National Film Theatre, the Royal National Theatre, the Hayward Gallery and the Museum of Moving Image. The Walk continues past Gabriel’s Wharf, the OXO Tower and under Blackfriars Bridge passing Bankside Gallery before reaching the Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge which crosses the Thames to St Paul’s Cathedral

Either cross the Millennium Bridge and re-join the Jubilee Walkway at St Paul’s Cathedral or follow the riverbank passing Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
